SNOWSHOES?:
Yes, bring your snowshoes. The Big Bear Discovery Center will provide snowshoes for anyone who doesn't have them. Please contact us ahead of time to let us know if you need a pair.
WHAT TO WEAR: Layers are best. Water Resistant pants (to protect from the snow that flicks off your snowshoes) over some loose fitting sweats or tights (preferably something NOT cotton). Socks - Do NOT wear cotton socks! Top - A polypro or non-cotton longsleeve longjohn type top is the best first layer. On top of that a fleece is a good idea and a thin jacket is also good. Don't bring a big jacket, you'll definitely get too hot. Hiking Poles/Ski Poles are optional. Hat - definitely a beenie. Gloves - Thin gloves are best.
WHAT TO BRING: Some non-sugary snacks. A thermos of hot cocoa, hot cider, hot coffee, tea or whatever you want to put into your flask. A headlamp or flashlight.
ITINERARY: We'll meet at Aspen Glen, gather our gear and head up 1E01/Pine Knot Trail by 5:00 p.m. We'll hike to Grand View point. At Grand View Point we'll take a break and enjoy the full moon (how long? depends on how cold it is...) From there we will return via 1E01 to Aspen Glen. Meet following the hike at Nottinghams for a drink and some grub. Come join the fund and support Nigel.
